This National Park is managed by the Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service to protect it's biological, aesthetic and recreational values. It contains large areas of eucalypt woodland, wildlife and semi-evergreen vine.
Its about a 5km trek from the base up the road, that some fitness fanatics prefer to ride, walk or run to the summit instead taking the easy way up by car. You can take a break about half way up because there is a saddle type formation that allows views in front and behind you. The next best stop up the mountain is nearly at the top where you really get see Rockhampton quite clearly from the roadside.
Fraser Park, located at the top of the mountain, is managed by the Rockhampton City Council, but the facilities were developed by a variety of community groups. This tranquil park is great for picnics and is a starting point for short bushwalks along clearly marked tracks. The paths lead to lookout points like the Lea Taylor Lookout, Grasstree Lookout and Sleipner Lookout. Not only are you rewarded with spectacular views, you also get to admire the attractive bushland during your leisurely stroll!
