Located 38km west of Rockhampton on the Capricorn Highway, this place showcases 120 million year old thundereggs and is the home of Aradon fine pewter. Other works of art and gemstones like amethysts are also available.
Thundereggs are relatively round shaped rocks that reveal a beautiful pattern when cut in half. The first thing you do is fossick for some thundereggs in the field, then bring them back to be cut and polished. This makes a great momento of the occasion because you were the one that actually discovered it.
All pewter items are marketed under the "Aradon" brand name and are distributed all over Australia and overseas. The pewter is made on-site so cutomised items are also available. The basic process to create these fine pewter items is to melt the pewter, then pour it into a mould. Once cooled, the pewter is then cleaned and polished. Typical pewter items produced include animals, belt buckles, coasters, letter openers and many more things like this.
There are also guided tours, camping sites, food and BBQs available.
